Coombe Boys’ School recognises the strong link between attainment and attendance and the important role parents play in ensuring that it is as high as possible.
To illustrate:
90% attendance is an average of one day out of school per fortnight over a school year.
90% attendance over 5 years at secondary school is 1/2 a school year missed.
80% attendance over 5 years at secondary school is the same as one whole school year missed.
If pupils attend school every day their attendance will be 100% and they will receive a certificate for this at the termly Celebration Assembly.
Coming to school every day means students will learn more, grow confidence and make progress.
Please report your child's absence by 8:00 am for that day and for everyday of the student's absence.
If pupils are not in school, the preferred and easiest way to report an absence is via our attendance inbox by emailing [email protected]
If phoning the school to report an absence, parents must telephone 020 8329 2587.
Parents must record
their child's first name and surname, spelling them both
their form
the reason for their absence.
Parents are strongly requested not to arrange family holidays during term time as we are unable to authorise these.
Punctuality means being on time and is an important part of self–discipline and essential to good time management. The School Day starts at 8.30 am.
Pupils, who arrive late for whole school assemblies, but before the start of period 1 at 8.55, must enter the Hall by the back doors and report to the member of staff on late duty.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays pupils arriving after 8.30am, but before 8.55, should report to their tutor.
All pupils arriving after 8.55am must report to the school reception where the date and time of arrival will be recorded in their planner.
Persistent lateness to school and lessons will be dealt with through the school’s behaviour policy and detention systems.
Students must behave in a calm manner in accordance with all aspects of the behaviour policy, which includes following instructions from staff at all times.
Students are expected to enter and leave the school site wearing full school uniform, phones must be turned off and put away and no headphones or similar should be worn.

At no time are students permitted to walk or cycle through the school car park. This is to ensure their safety.
All year groups enter the school via the main entrance.
There are separate exits for different Key Stages at the end of the school day to help avoid any congestion and /or accidents in order to ensure student safety. Over 1000 students leave at roughly the same time.
KS3 (Years 7,8 & 9) must leave via the main school entrance

Once students have left the school site they are expected to make their way home swiftly to avoid any congestion and to demonstrate consideration to our neighbours
Students either waiting for and using public transport are expected to demonstrate politeness and courtesy to fellow travellers and be mindful of their actions. Behaviour on public transport must to be in line with behaviour expectations within school. Students should see themselves as ambassadors for the school and act accordingly at all times.
