Our Year 11 Prefects have given up time in their holidays and each morning this week to support the New Malden @royalbritishlegion with the National Poppy Appeal. They’ll be back for one more day at the station tomorrow so do pop by and say hello whilst picking up your Poppy.
Film Club is now taking bookings for the Spring Term for students in Years 7-10. Over the course of the term they will step behind the camera to create their own original documentary short film. Working in real life roles, from director to presenter, they will research, film and deliver a story about a local hero, historic place, or community event, guided by experienced teachers, filmmakers, and artists. Our #CBSStaffBookClub met yesterday to discuss The Word Is Murder by Anthony Horowitz, and with the the odd exception it received a big thumbs up. Moving on to this half term read Miss Hinsley has selected James by #PercivalEverett, a powerful reimagining of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the point of view of enslaved Jim. All members of staff are invited to come book clubbing with us on Wednesday 7th January, 4-5pm in the Library for a social discussion of James over coffee and biscuits. See you there!
We are celebrating #Non-FictionNovember with history choices for this #BOTW.⠀ ⠀ KS3: 100 Things To Know About History from @Usborne_books is a quick fun fact book that students dip in and out of during break time in the library. There is always something new to learn and its infographics make history an even more appealing subject to enjoy.⠀ ⠀ KS4: The Five by @hallierubenhold tells the story of the women killed by Jack the Ripper. This is a radical refocusing of the story, concentrating on the alleged victims. It is of particular interest to our students studying GCSE History.
